The Black Skrippa Brigade (BSB) is a Chicago based collective of black, queer strippers and pole dancers combating the lack of local opportunities and community for black dancers. The organization’s mission is to curate a comfortable, affirming space where performers can connect, improve their pole skills, and get regularly booked in Chicago.

A site made to solve a problem.

BSB was founded as a direct response to the racist hiring practices and lack of opportunity for black dancers in Chicago. So, when its original site was repeatedly censored by its hosting platform, BSB’s founder reached out to us for help. When we rebuilt the site, our primary goal was moving it to a platform that wouldn’t shut it down for every little thing. Creating something that was pretty, engaging, and matched the brand was just the cherry on top.

Project Overview

The Challenge When we started working with BSB, the collective was struggling with constant censorship and site suspensions by its previous site builder and hosting platform. This severely impacted BSB’s ability to market its events, get booked, and promote the collective and individual dancers.
Our Collaboration Working with the collective’s founder, we switched the existing site to Squarespace, effectively ending the censorship issues. From there, we updated the look and feel to match the BSB brand, designed pages and galleries to highlight its members and events, and created dedicated forms to help the collective (and individual dancers) get booked more frequently.
